Friday 26th ACA Races

It was my greatest pleasure this friday to get to race Gemma Vuckovic in the first 2 rounds. In the 1st round Gemma and I crossed paths slamming into each other at the line, graciously Gemma aloud me to keep the win in exchange for pieces of her bow that were lodged in my boat. I the 2nd round Gemma schooled me in tactics and showed me how much I still must learn.

In round 3 it momentarily looked as though there would be noone to race but LDeWell and Jeremia showed up ready to race, and after 2 clean rounds of racing Q decided to unleash whats now know as Muta hell. Q started the clock then informed us that we had to sail to a sim on the far side of Nautilus with a color bouy we had to round and said be gone. After a strong start I was forced back to rl, so I lined up the boat to the bouy and bailed into the oceans( I nearly hit Q, must aim better next time). Jeremia who was apparently just going to follow me rounded Nautilus without clearing the bouy and was disqualified, LDeWell and now Jaspar managed to round the bouy and head back for NYC line. LDeWell got lost and depending on which SLCG memeber is tasked with finding him he may never be recovered.

So all that remained was Jaspar, on course and headed back to the the line as the only one capable of finishing the race. As he got closer SL decided to make the race even harder and broke up the sims leaving him stuck where he sat. Once the sims came back online Jaspar crashed, but his boat was perfectly lined up and crossed the line to score him the victory in a very strange end to some great ACA racing.

Sunday Regatta SYC

Sunday SYC hosted its weekly regatta pairing up ACA's and J class boats. MSR was on hand with 3 sailors ready to tackle the Olympic Long course.

Now I usually wait to post these until the race results are posted, but that hasn't happened yet so I will update when those results come online.

Reven, Neron, and Myself showed to put up a fight with some more varied sailors then we normally face. The race was split into 2 heats because of the number of boats on hand, with me in the first heat and Reven and Neron in the second heat. I took the the first heat by nearly a minute over the second place boat in a greatly uneventful race.

Neron and Reven took to the course in the second heat trying to get into the finals on time. Neron taking off to the south while Reven took a westerly course to stay clear of the fleet, yet still had Liv run afoul of him on a sim crossing. Both boats continued on their way. Later in what I can only assume was a leading or close to it position Reven fell overboard his boat and spent the rest of the event waiting for a fumbling Colin of the SLCG to eventually to not find him. I'm not knocking the CG just Colin. Neron however set the pace and advanced to the finals where he and I would square off to see who would take the day.

The Olympic Long course is a very large course covering most of the blake sea, with the first bouy at the far end of the sae giving lots of different courses and tacks to take to the first mark.
As Reven had done in the second heat I took the westerly course as Neron headed to the south.

When we finally reached the first mark I had a sizeable lead which would be too much for Neron to fight back from, giving me the title for the day, and enhancing Neron and I's scrap for most wins in the team. I may be 3 ahead in round wins but Neron races much more then I so everytime I beat him in our friendly competition is just 1 day longer I get to pick at him.

After the race I managed to locate Reven sitting on the rocks at fastnet lighthouse and returned him to dry land, thank you Colin your so much help.

Also Quirky took some great pictures of the race that you can see here.

When the race results become available I will post a link here as well.

Another Friday night slumming round the blake sea

Another good night of wins for the team.. whitewashing the others. 1 win for Carmen and 3 for Neron.. i set the races up.. it was fun to watch.. may not have been so much fun to race in.. and yes i got the obligatory I HATE YOU QUIRKY from Carmen.. such is life! BTW Neron has the most awful taste in sails!

Next week i would love to see more MSR sailors!

Meet the Sailors

Meet Emme Eales. Sailing in boat # 11 she is another one of my pirate racers. She has yet to race, but if she has half the talent she has while at the helm of a pirate ship she'll do quite well.

A very artistic woman who sails are some beautiful sails, she is the other lady helping to ground the testosterone on the team.

Congratulations Neron

I would like to take a quick moment to congratulate Neron on his 20th and 21st round wins that he earned this week. Now go out there and lets get to 30.

The Boss

OK time for me to write about Carmen.. heheheheheeeee.. where to start??? It was her idea to come up with this racing team, its roots started with the sim we both inhabit, Midnight Hour. I first met her many years ago (or seems like it) she was always the impish little sprite that got into all kinds of bother, but as i got to know Her she has been the truest of friends, she got into sailing, and the bug bit.. and bit deep.
We spend many an evening discussing sailing in second life, the boats the characters that this strange place throws up. Her enthusiasm is truly infectious. Her wicked sense of humour shines through.
The club started as an offshoot of the famous Midnight Jazz Club that we share land with, however not that many Sinatra fans go sailing. so she did what she does best and gathers friends, Pirates like minded people. Her abilities are endless from designing hulls to making my ride on ACA her talents know no bounds. She is the natural leader for this team of friends...
Thank you Carmen... its been a blast to know you.. and it's going to be one hell of a ride from this point in!!!

Meet the Sailors

Quirky Torok can be credited with everything you see here. He pushed me to run my first race when I was just puttering around the water seeing the sights, he gives me a place to run MSR from in world, and has even started a weekly race that fits into my schedule.

Quirky brings real life boating experience to the team with a deep knowledge of the rules and how things are supposed to work, he is an immense asset to the team. He is our source of news and happenings around the SL sailing community, and a solid sailor to boot.

Fair winds Quirky and see you on the line.

Meet the Sailors

Our next sailor I met on the race line and had a few sparing matching with. Impressed with his talent I asked him to join the team to add a little depth to a team mostly made of new sailors.

Neron Blanco is a talented sailor who sails almost everything and races almost everyday. Earning nearly 10 race wins in the 2 weeks he has been with the team, he was awarded Lead Sailor for June. Neron has even began to build boats, with a boat underway for the TYC boat building contest and another project that's too early to reveal details.

So best of luck Neron on the water with all your projects wether racing or building.

Meet the Sailors

I think its time for you to meet the sailors. So with that in mind the first sailor I will introduce you to is Reven Fhang. He is one of the 3 racers for MSR I drafted in from the pirate community.

He is fierce some in a pirate ship and appears to be learning the aca quite fast.

Good Luck and Fairwinds Reven

Sunday Big Boat Race

Sunday Gemma Vuckovic hosted Big Boat race from NYC. 15 boats turned up for this handicap event. Big news for MSR is we had 4 of our 6 racers show up for the first round as Neron, Reven, Quirky, and I lined up on a lag filled course.

None of the team scored a win but Neron showing that racing almost everyday has its advantages lead the team through the first two rounds. Neron placed Second in the first round and Fourth in the second round passing me floundering on the final leg.

In the third round shaking the dust off some I came in second coming behind the lengendary IcaBod Jonesford, and in the fourth and final round came in second behind Joro Aya proving she can sail more then just the fizz fast.

Reven took the line in the first round scoring Seventh in a very tough field of racers and gained some well earned experience in a crowded field in heavy lag.

Quirky I believe ran more then the first round but the results only go up to 9 racers, however Q wouldn't finish behind Colin unless he dropped out so theat may have been the case. He did however post a Sixth place in the first round.

My thanks to all the MSR racers who showed up for a very tough race, and heres hopeing in the near future to have all 6 racers in a single race.

Lead Sailor Award

In keeping pace with the growth of the team I have added a new monthly award, Lead Sailor.

Lead Sailor will be given to the sailor on the team who has shown the greatest skill in their races each month. So I'm pleased to announce Neron Blanco as the first winner to receive Lead Sailor tag after posting an amazing win streak in the last two weeks boosting him to the top of team overall wins and a close second in round wins.

Congratulations Neron

While I was Gone

While I've been away doing various things Neron and Quirky have been out on the water.
Neron has racked up 3 round wins with an overall race win and Quirky has added another round win to his total.
Sometime soon I hope to be back on the water but in the mean time MSR is well represented at the start lines.
